Dubstep in itself is a very misunderstood genre with the “wobble” being hated by millions but who better to characterise the genre than Skrillex? Many associate the Marmite effect (either you love him or hate him) with Skrillex but in actuality the expansion of dubstep into minimal, progressive, post-dubstep gives no set category for Skrillex to fit into. His heavy metal influence in his image and music mean that the excessively loud drops have become a challenge to exceed and outdo. So in order to mix up his sound, Skrillex teams up with reggae artist Damian Marley on “Make It Bun Dem” but the question is: Does reggae dubstep work? Should it be named something more creative?
What do you think?
